The
mission of Buffalo Heritage Unlimited is to highlight and promote the rich history
and heritage of Buffalo and Western New York with the goal of increasing awareness
of the opportunities for the city to reestablish itself as a strong, vibrant community.
Although
Buffalo Heritage was founded in 2006, it continues the tradition of Canisius College
Press, a not-for-profit publishing operation which ceased publishing in June 2005.
Buffalo Heritage CEO Joseph Bieron brings with him all of the experience and wisdom
gained during his ten-year tenure as founder and director of Canisius College
Press, and Buffalo Heritage executive director Marti Gorman brings with her eight
years of publishing experience as the founder and director of New Idea Press (Boulder,
Colorado).
Buffalo
was the eighth largest city in the U.S. and at the geographic and political center
of the nation at the turn of the century. The city was also a printing and publishing
hub in the northeastern U.S. just half a century ago. Now that the world is "flat,"
Buffalo has an opportunity to reestablish itself as a center of gracious living
and strong community, of clean industry, with a global perspective and telecommuting.
Its strategic importance as a border city is coming to the fore, and its historic
grandeur and rich legacy is being preserved and restored. Buffalo is on the rise,
a city on the verge of a renaissance. Buffalo Heritage hopes to play a key role
in keeping this revitalization momentum going.
It will do so by taking full advantage of new print technology that promises to
make short-run, full color, high quality book publishing more economically feasible
than ever before, and by recognizing that print + multimedia is the new publishing
paradigm. Buffalo Heritage books will come to life through the use of multimedia
tools and techniques. The power of the Internet will also be leveraged to help
change the perception of Buffalo locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
As a small, special niche publisher, Buffalo Heritage provides all the services
needed to go from intellectual content to publication, and creative marketing
approaches are employed to ensure the broadest possible distribution of Buffalo
Heritage imprints.
Buffalo
Heritage Unlimited's first imprint is the Garden Walk Buffalo book & DVD, released
on November 1, 2006. A second title, Oakland Place: Gracious Living in Buffalo,
will be released on November 30, 2006. Both of these books, as well as a number
of Canisius College Press titles, are available for purchase online at www.buffaloheritage.com,
and in a growing number of area bookstores and gift shops.
More
than two dozen publishing projects are currently under consideration for 2007,
including a multimedia rendition of Classic Buffalo that promises to enhance and
expand upon this beautiful book that portrays Buffalo's fabulous architectural
legacy.
