Frederick Law Olmsted’s Point Chautauqua: The Story of an Historic Lakeside Community
This lovely tome recounts how this settlement on the shores of Lake Chautauqua was founded by a group of Baptists who engaged the services of America’s most eminent landscape architect. Fredserick Law Olmsted’s plan for Point Chautauqua is very different than that of the far better known Chautauqua Institute across the lake. Its curving streets follow the landscape and provide beautiful views and delightful breezes for residents. One of the only remaining working communities designed by Olmsted, it presages the layout of 20th century suburban residential communities.
